Volume II — PlugVine Business Bible · Chapter 25 of 100
Some of the Best Advocacy for Your Business Will Never Show Up in a Report
Private recommendations can influence discovery and reputation while never entering a referral dashboard.
Invisible Advocacy is voluntary support or recommendation that benefits a business while remaining unknown, unrecorded, or insufficiently understood. Businesses tend to value what dashboards can see, but private conversations can influence discovery and consideration while never entering a referral report. People can advocate privately without becoming public promoters or unpaid workers — quiet advocacy remains voluntary human communication, and its exact scale often stays unknown.
Where this stops short
Invisible does not mean unimportant, but it also doesn’t mean massive — unknown magnitude should remain unknown. Complete visibility would require forms of observation that contradict privacy and agency, so the goal isn’t to eliminate the blind spot; some of the relationships carrying a business should remain outside its view.
What this means in practice
A customer arrives and says, “I’ve heard people mention you” — the business can record reported word-of-mouth without forcing a name or interrogating the customer. Allow unknown, partial, and shared attribution rather than scraping private networks or inferring hidden relationship structures merely to improve attribution coverage.
A trustworthy business should reduce unnecessary blindness to advocacy without treating complete visibility as either possible or desirable. Some of the relationships carrying the business should remain outside the business’s view.
